The course polymer microscopy attends to instruct the undergraduate students to have a complete and systematic basic knowledge of the application of microscopies, including optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy and electron microscopy, in the multiscale structure analysis of polymers. This course is presented in four main parts/ten classes. The first part focuses on the principle of optical microscopy and its main function on structure analysis (Chapter 1). The second part deals with the atomic force microscopy, including the principle of atomic force microscopy, its main function as well as its major role in structure analysis (Chapter 2)in particular. The third part concerns the principles of scanning and transmission electron microscopies. For the transmission electron microscopy, the principles of different imaging modes such as bright field, dark field and electron diffraction will be explained in details. Special attention will be paid on the analysis and importance of electron diffraction. The forth part presents some illustrative examples to show the combination of these microscopic techniques in a fully understanding of the multiscale structures of polymer. This course will also provide the students with opportunities to make practical use of these microscopes.
