本课程是材料与工程类（高分子材料与工程、材料科学与工程、功能材料）本科专业的必修课。选用原版专业教材，采用双语讲授工程材料技术，材料家族，材料组成、结构、性能与应用，金属材料、无机非金属材料、聚合物材料、复合材料和生物材料的基本概念和基础理论。结合上述专业知识讲授相关的专业英语语言知识；通过英文形式的随堂测验、课堂提问和期末考试对学生材料学科知识掌握程度进行考核；通过工程英语形式查阅材料相关文献并总结课程论文、参加并总结英文学术报告、材料相关主题英文演讲、英文摘要写作等形式，全方位训练学生的英语应用能力。实现培养学生材料科学基础与英语交流能力的双重目标，提高学生在材料科学领域的国际交流能力。Introduction to materials’ is a required course for the third-year students majored in polymer materials and engineering, materials science and engineering and biomaterials. Based on a textbook in English, which is used as the main teaching material, the bilingual course is taught in both Chinese and English. The teaching contents focus on engineering materials technology, family of materials, nature and structure of materials, metallic materials, ceramic materials, polymeric materials, composites and their corresponding fundamental concepts and theories. Meanwhile, the typical specialized terms and expressions in English associated with the aforementioned fundamental concepts are also covered in the lectures. The students will be trained in all aspects through involvement in the following activities such as in-class quizzes in English, materials-related answer-to-questions, and discussion on relevant topics in the lectures, listening to academic reports in English and summarizing the scientific issues presented in the report plus the research background of the presenter and the presenter’s research field, and making a presentation related to materials science and engineering in English, and writing an abstract in English based on materials-related literature reading.
